Pumpkin Patch 2014

We wanted to go to the pumpkin patch while my mom was still here visiting. It's always a fun tradition and Adam was so young last year we didn't end up going.

The weather was gorgeous so I was convinced we were going to have the perfect outing. Ha! About 5 minutes after we arrived we were swarmed with Mosquitos. They were everywhere. It ended up being the fastest trip to the pumpkin patch ever. Kind of sad, but what can you do?? We got pumpkins; mission accomplished.

Apparently all the histamine from the mosquito bites affected Adrian. That's the only explanation I can come up with.
Look, even Adam's confused.

Adam Turns 1 Year Old!

Our sweet Adam turned 1 on October 3rd. I can't believe it's been a year already. Seems like just yesterday Adrian and I were staring in shock at the positive pregnancy test!

The last year has been a whirlwind to say the least. Adam is...active. Times 10. He's easily our craziest, most determined and fearless child. He started walking at barely 10 months old and now climbs anything, runs, pulls stuff off the counters and tries to open doors. I'm contemplating transforming the playroom into a padded room. (for Adam or myself, I'm not quite sure!)

I took some pictures of Adam today while walking around the yard. I love how they turned out! I think they capture the fun, free spirit that Adam is.

Adam is obviously doing well in the mobility department! Verbally he's also doing pretty good. He says Mama and Dada, wow, uh oh, ooooh, and very recently bye. Although he alternated it with die and well, that's kind of creepy so let's move on.

Adams 1 year stats: 32" tall (off the charts!) and 23 lbs (80th%)

He adores all the toys he got for his birthday, especially the green pull frog and the helicopter. He also plays with dolls and gives them slobbery kisses which we all think is adorable.

Since birth Adam hasn't been the greatest sleeper but I'm happy to report at about 7/8 months, something clicked and since then he's done really well. He plays hard and sleeps hard- sleeping easily 12 hours at night and taking two 2-3 hour naps during the day. It's pure bliss.

Here's to many more birthdays for our little cutie!

First Day of School 2014!

Summer has officially ended which means one thing- school has begun! The kids were really excited to start school this year. For years, with year-round school, our summer have been just 3 weeks long. So this year, even though our do school let out a month after everyone else, the kids still got a nearly 2 month long summer! It was a much longer break than they were used to and boy were we all ready for school again!

With this new house and new school comes another new experience- taking the bus! After just one week I'm happy to report both the kids and I LOVE the bus. So convenient!

We had Back to School night last night and I was able to meet the kids' teachers. It's going to be a great year! All of their teachers have 15-20 years' teaching experience and it's so great to see their tried-and-true plan for a successful year.

Thomas has Ms.Eskridge for 5th grade.
Hailey has Mrs.Webb for 2nd grade.
Colin has Ms.McGary for Kindergarten!

Leah tells everyone she's in preschool and that she rides the bus to school. Can't fault a girl for wishful thinking.

Here's to another year of school!

Leah Says The Funniest Things

I know most of the kids said funny things around age 2-3, but I was never very good at writing them down. I'm trying to remedy that with Leah! I'll add to this post as content comes...

Early August- In the nursery room at church they have a recliner chair that squeaks terribly. I was sitting in it with Adam, rocking, while Leah was playing and suddenly she stops, looks over at me and says, "Mom, there's a birdie in that chair!"

In the last week, July 20th, 2014...

Mom: "I love you Leah."
Leah: "I love bacon."

In the Costco bathroom, Leah's washing her hands and while people walk in she yells at them, "Do you need to go the bathroom?!"

I'm in the shower and just out conditioner in my hair. Leah yells from outside, "Mom, did you just put toothpaste in your hair?!"

We bought a Kayak!

A few years ago Adrian and I kayaked in the ocean in Peurto Rico and since then we've talked about getting one. Life gets in the way though and as we added new babies, a house, and another degree to the family, the kayak dream got pushed to the back burner. Until last week.

Adrian and I were out and about and as we passed by the Lifetime store on the freeway, I remembered they were having some big sale. It didn't take much convincing to get Adrian to take a look and well, 30 minutes later we found ourselves with a boat! We got a great deal (of course- you know us!) and came away super excited.

We got a babysitter and took the kayak out on a date tonight and had a fantastic time. The weather was gorgeous, the setting was quiet and it was so great being able to talk to each other without interruption.

Neither of us have been out on the Great Salt Lake so it was a new experience. It was so calm and peaceful. The millions of birds we saw were fun to watch and I took about a thousand pictures.

The water was NASTY but I didn't expect  any different. Then Adrian wanted to swim in it. Yeah that wasn't going to happen. He swam. I stayed in the boat and focused on not catching malaria.

We were out on the water for a couple hours. It will be interesting to see if we're sore tomorrow. I can't wait to go out again!
